The University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) and Doylestown Health have unveiled plans for Doylestown Health to become a part of Penn Medicine, aiming to enhance patient care and expand services throughout the greater Philadelphia region. The collaboration, driven by shared values and a commitment to comprehensive patient care, encompasses hospitals, outpatient facilities, home-based care, and telemedicine.
UPHS CEO Kevin B. Mahoney emphasized Penn Medicine’s goal to offer accessible options for patients across the region, spanning primary care, maternity services, orthopedic surgery, and advanced treatments for conditions such as cancer and heart disease. The partnership with Doylestown Health, known for its historic commitment to patient care in the Northern region, aligns with this vision.
Doylestown Health, a not-for-profit clinically integrated network, operates Doylestown Hospital as its flagship facility, providing access to leading specialists, cutting-edge treatments, minimally invasive surgeries, clinical trials, and patient-centered care.
UPHS and Doylestown Health’s existing clinical integration, demonstrated through initiatives like Penn Radiation Oncology at Doylestown, has laid the groundwork for this strategic partnership. Doylestown Hospital has been part of the Penn Cancer Network for over a decade, collaborating with Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center to broaden access to treatments and clinical trials.
Doylestown Health President and CEO James Brexler affirmed the commitment to maintaining their mission of delivering high-quality care close to home. The partnership with Penn Medicine is expected to amplify Doylestown Health’s ability to provide clinical excellence and positively impact the well-being of the communities it has served for over a century.
While the announcement marks the beginning of the proposed partnership, the formalization of the collaboration will undergo a thorough process, including due diligence and the signing of definitive agreements. Regulatory reviews at the federal and state levels will follow before the partnership is officially established.
Once finalized, Doylestown Hospital will join the Penn Medicine network as its seventh hospital, joining the ranks of UPHS’s existing institutions, including the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, Chester County Hospital, Lancaster General Health, and Princeton Health.
