Lack Of Sleep Could Lead To Serious Health Issues And A Shorter Life, Experts Warn

by Shreeya

Missing a few nights of sleep might leave you feeling irritable and tired. But when sleep deprivation lasts for a longer period, it can significantly harm your health.

A team of doctors and scientists from the United States recently conducted a study that revealed a direct link between insufficient sleep and a higher risk of early death. Their research, published by the American Medical Association (AMA), found that people who consistently get less than the recommended 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night have a 29% higher risk of dying from any cause over the course of five years.

The study tracked 46,000 people and highlighted the importance of getting enough sleep regularly to stay healthy and reduce the risk of premature death.

Previous research published in The Journal of Immunology also showed that even one night of poor sleep can weaken the immune system. The study suggested that long-term sleep disruption could cause inflammation and make people more vulnerable to various health problems.

A team at the Dasman Diabetes Institute in Kuwait further explored the connection between sleep deprivation and inflammation. They found that while being overweight increases the risk of inflammation, poor sleep on its own can also contribute to this problem, regardless of a person’s weight. This shows that sleep disruption plays an independent role in weakening the immune system and raising the risk of illness.

In conclusion, sleep deprivation over time can significantly impact overall health and increase the likelihood of serious conditions and early death. Experts urge everyone to prioritize getting enough sleep to safeguard their well-being.
