Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard suffered a torn left Achilles tendon during Game 4 of their playoff series against the Indiana Pacers, ending his 2025 season and putting his 2025-26 season in doubt.
The injury happened early in the first quarter when Lillard went down after tipping the ball to a teammate and grabbing his lower left leg. An MRI confirmed the severity on Monday.
Lillard, 34, had just returned from a serious blood clot in his right calf that sidelined him for the last 14 regular-season games. His recovery was remarkable, but now he faces a long rehab that typically takes 8 to 12 months, meaning he could miss the start of next season.
The Bucks trail the Pacers 3-1 in the first-round series and will play Game 5 without their star guard. Teammates and coaches praised Lillard’s toughness and mental strength, expressing confidence he will overcome this setback.
Lillard was having a strong season, ranking 10th in scoring and assists, and earned his 10th All-Star selection. His injury adds to the Bucks’ recent playoff struggles with key players missing time due to injuries.
Recovery from an Achilles tear is tough, but experts believe Lillard’s determination will help him return to the court. Meanwhile, the Bucks must continue their playoff run without him.
