The new South Tuggeranong Health Centre, situated near Lanyon Marketplace in Conder, is set to offer a comprehensive range of free public health services to residents. These services, informed by input from clinicians, consumers, and the local community, include paediatrics, pathology, dementia care, and chronic disease programs. The centre’s design and clinical offerings have been shaped by feedback received during consultations conducted in late 2023, reflecting the community’s desire for easier access to preventive health services and treatment for chronic diseases.
This facility, one of five new health centres planned across the ACT, aims to cater to the evolving health needs of the Tuggeranong community. Alongside paediatrics, pathology collection, and chronic disease programs, it will provide services such as diabetes clinics, falls injury prevention, community nursing, and a virtual care interview room.
The South Tuggeranong Health Centre is part of the ACT Government’s broader initiative to enhance health care accessibility and infrastructure in the region. Integrated multi-disciplinary care, focusing on preventive care, early intervention, and chronic illness management, will be a key feature of these new health centres, complementing existing nurse-led Walk-in Centres and community health centres in Canberra.
Construction of the South Tuggeranong Health Centre is expected to commence in the latter half of 2024 and be completed by the end of 2025. The ACT Government plans to engage with residents of the Inner South and North Gungahlin areas to gather input on the services and design of the forthcoming health centres in those regions. Additionally, ongoing investment in health workforce development, including recruitment and upskilling, underscores the government’s commitment to providing Canberrans with timely and quality health care.
