Research indicates that self-collection represents a more appealing, appropriate, and sensitive screening alternative for many individuals who have never or rarely been screened. Importantly, it is as accurate as healthcare provider-collected tests in detecting HPV.
To ensure that the self-collection option is readily available to eligible patients during their routine cervical screening, it is essential to have self-collection swabs readily accessible at your practice. Coordination with your laboratory is crucial to ensure that you possess the correct swabs and instructions for offering self-collection.
In an effort to equip healthcare providers with the necessary knowledge and resources, the Department of Health and Aged Care has allocated funding to the Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer (ACPCC).
