Staunton, Va. (WHSV) – Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare, a prominent provider of mental health services for youth, is set to expand its operations with a new short-term care facility in Staunton. The Staunton City Council voted unanimously on June 27 to approve the repurposing of an old single-family home into a youth therapy center. This facility will offer vital mental health services to children aged 12 to 17.
Liberty Point has a strong history of supporting youth in mental health crises. The new center will build on this legacy by providing short-term care to help children reacclimate to life at home and school after experiencing a mental health crisis. Operating hours for the facility will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a capacity to serve up to ten youth per day.
The decision to convert the old group home, previously run by Liberty Point, into a dedicated mental health care office reflects the urgent need for accessible mental health services for young people in the Valley. The Staunton City Council’s unanimous support for this initiative underscores the community’s commitment to addressing mental health issues among its youth population.
City Councilor, who voted in favor of the ordinance, emphasized the importance of this facility for the local community. “This facility will provide much-needed support for our youth, helping them navigate through their mental health challenges and reintegrate into their daily lives,” said one council member.
Liberty Point’s new center will be the first of its kind in the Shenandoah Valley, marking a significant milestone in the region’s mental health care landscape. The facility aims to offer a safe and supportive environment where children can receive the care they need to overcome their challenges and build resilience for the future.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance mental health services nationwide, particularly for young people who are increasingly facing mental health challenges. By providing targeted, short-term care, Liberty Point hopes to make a lasting impact on the lives of the youth it serves, offering them the tools and support necessary to thrive in their communities.
The new facility is expected to open its doors later this year, following necessary renovations and preparations. Liberty Point Behavioral Healthcare is committed to ensuring that the center meets all regulatory standards and provides a high level of care to all its patients.
