A mental health care team operating across Wolverhampton and Walsall has been praised for providing a “gold standard” service, according to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT).
The team, composed of 16 specialists, is dedicated to serving older adults, particularly those with delirium and dementia, as well as patients with complex needs. A recent report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) confirmed that the team is fully compliant and safe to care for patients under the Mental Health Act.
Since 2020, the team has expanded from six to sixteen members. This growth reflects a concerted effort to enhance mental health services in the region. Caroline Walker from RWT highlighted the significant improvements made for individuals with mental health issues.
Dr. Manjeet Shehmar, Chief Medical Officer at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, emphasized the team’s commitment to treating each patient with the same care and kindness they would offer a loved one. This compassionate approach has had a profound impact on patient well-being.
In addition to their work with older patients, the team also provides mental health support and guidance throughout the broader hospital trusts in Wolverhampton and Walsall. Their comprehensive care approach ensures that a wide range of mental health needs are met, setting a high standard for mental health services in the region.
