The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released a report on December 29 detailing insights gathered from the first two meetings of a technical advisory group focused on refining the expanded value-based purchasing model for home health. The report outlines considerations for potential improvements to the model’s methods, measures, and its approach to promoting health equity.
The expanded value-based home health purchasing model launches in 2022 and covers Medicare-certified home health agencies in all 50 states and U.S. territories. The model’s current measure relies on data from the Home Health Quality Reporting Program, Medicare claims, and the Consumer Assessment of Home Health Care Survey of Healthcare Providers and Systems.
The Technical Advisory Group aims to leverage collective expertise to further refine the model and ensure its effectiveness in promoting value-based care in the home health field. As CMS continues to advance the model, stakeholders can anticipate continued improvements to address key aspects of approaches, measures, and strategies to enhance health equity within the home care framework.
