The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has upgraded the recall of MadeGood granola bars to a Class II recall, which impacts over 2.4 million cases of the product, the agency confirmed Tuesday.
On December 9, 2024, Riverside Natural Foods, Inc. voluntarily recalled 2,408,883 cases of MadeGood granola bars due to a potential safety concern. Affected products include varieties such as chocolate chip and mixed berry granola bars, which may contain small pieces of metal.
These granola bars, produced between January and November 2024, were sold in Canada, the United States, and international markets.
Why Were the Granola Bars Recalled?
According to MadeGood’s website, the recall was prompted by the potential presence of a “small, flat brush bristle” in certain batches. Despite receiving only seven complaints among millions of bars sold, no injuries have been reported. The recall was issued as a precautionary measure after an extensive investigation by the company identified and addressed the issue.

FDA Class II Recall Classification
The FDA classifies recalls on a scale from Class I to Class III. A Class II recall, like the one issued for MadeGood granola bars, indicates that the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences,” though the risk of serious injury is remote.
What Should Consumers Do?
Consumers are advised to check their products against the recall list. Those in possession of the affected granola bars can return them to the store for a full refund. If you suspect that you’ve consumed a recalled product, MadeGood assures customers that no injuries have been reported.
