A team at the University of Michigan is using ChatGPT to adapt exercise instructions for children with autism.
Led by Dr. Rebecca Hasson, the team updated the InPACT program, which provides short “exercise snacks” to kids.
Initially designed for typical learners, the program’s videos needed adjustments for neurodivergent children, who process information differently.
By using ChatGPT, the researchers simplified and clarified exercise instructions, making them easier for kids with autism and other neurodivergent conditions to follow.
This new approach includes breaking down movements into smaller steps and using consistent language to reduce confusion.
The team is also working on additional resources, like starter packs for children with higher support needs, and plans to translate the videos into Spanish and Arabic. These efforts aim to ensure that all children, regardless of their learning style, can stay active and healthy.
