In the wake of the heartbreaking loss of a 2-month-old infant earlier this month, the grandmother of the deceased infant has spoken out, shedding light on the tragic incident.
Authorities were alerted to an emergency situation at a residence in Newport on the evening of April 11, responding swiftly to a report of an unresponsive 2-month-old infant. Despite efforts to provide medical assistance, the infant was transported to the hospital where, regrettably, they were pronounced deceased, according to statements from local law enforcement.
Luwada Jones, identified as the grandmother of the infant, expressed profound grief and disbelief over the loss. “I’m hurt, broken, I’m numb,” Jones articulated, struggling to find words to encapsulate the magnitude of her sorrow.
Providing insight into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s passing, Jones disclosed that the incident occurred within her residence during the late hours of the night. However, she emphasized that clarity regarding the cause remains elusive, with both families eagerly awaiting the results of the forthcoming autopsy.
While Jones acknowledged that her son and the infant’s mother were not romantically involved, she underscored their commitment to effective co-parenting. “All I can really say is my son was a good dad, and True had a good mother,” Jones affirmed, highlighting their dedication to nurturing their child.
In the midst of the tragedy, a 17-year-old individual has been taken into custody on charges of felony child endangerment, with legal proceedings initiated in Providence Family Court, as confirmed by law enforcement authorities.
Expressing a yearning for closure and understanding, Jones articulated her hope for the autopsy findings to provide solace to both sides affected by the tragedy. “Whatever happened, whatever took place, how it took place, whether it was on the father’s side or the mom’s side, I know they’re both good parents, and they would never do anything intentionally to hurt their baby,” Jones asserted, emphasizing the innocence and devotion of the infant’s parents.
