In an effort to provide crucial support to pregnant women and new parents, the Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has initiated a series of events aimed at addressing mental health concerns.
The trust will be hosting free drop-in sessions at various libraries throughout the county, offering individuals the opportunity to connect with fellow parents and learn about specialized services available to them.
Anthony Mobee-Dumi, representing the trust, underscored the prevalence of mental health challenges during and after pregnancy, citing statistics revealing that more than 20% of women encounter such difficulties during this period. Additionally, he highlighted that approximately 10% of fathers also grapple with mental health issues during their partner’s pregnancy and in early parenthood.
Kicking off the events will be a walk around the scenic grounds of Northampton’s Delapre Abbey, setting the tone for a series of gatherings designed to provide support and information.
Following the inaugural walk, the trust’s Specialist Perinatal Mental Health team will conduct sessions at libraries located in Kettering, Towcester, Rushden, Oundle, Wellingborough, Weston Favell, Corby, Desborough, and Moulton.
This dedicated team offers comprehensive assessment and treatment services for women experiencing, or at risk of developing, mental health conditions during pregnancy and up to 12 months postpartum. Additionally, the trust provides counseling services tailored to individuals who have previously endured severe mental illness and are contemplating pregnancy.
By organizing these events and offering accessible support, the Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust aims to foster a supportive environment for pregnant individuals and new parents, ensuring their mental well-being is prioritized during this transformative phase of life.
