UNFPA introduces a policy paper aimed at promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in the private sector. The paper emphasizes the importance of investing in women’s reproductive health, especially for the more than 190 million women working in global supply chains. It introduces a scorecard of indicators and metrics for companies to track their progress on key social issues in the workplace, such as maternity leave, fertility treatments, and sexual harassment protocols.
Creating an inclusive environment for women and positively influencing supply chains can lead to various benefits for companies, including increased workplace productivity, reduced absenteeism, and lower staff turnover rates. Since employees spend a significant portion of their reproductive years in the workplace, advancing SRHR is crucial for fostering safe, healthy, and equitable workplaces.
The paper provides companies with tools to assess their current maturity and progress, identify priority focus areas, and enhance corporate accountability through a scorecard of SRHR-centric indicators.
