The webinar hosted by the European Union (EU) Health Policy Platform and the WHO Barcelona Office for Health Systems Financing on June 4, 2024, will delve into the crucial question of whether healthcare is affordable for everyone in Europe. This event aims to shed light on financial protection, which ensures affordable access to healthcare, across 40 countries, with a particular focus on Belgium, France, and Spain. By bringing together international and country experts, the webinar seeks to explore policy choices that impact financial protection and highlight initiatives undertaken by countries to mitigate financial hardships and unmet healthcare needs.
Key questions to be addressed during the webinar include:
Why do many countries fail to provide healthcare coverage to the entire population?
How can countries alleviate the negative impacts of co-payments on healthcare affordability?
Can governments afford to ensure financial protection for their citizens?
Is private health insurance a viable solution to enhance financial protection?
The webinar will feature insights from esteemed speakers, including representatives from the European Commission Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, the WHO Barcelona Office, and experts from Belgium, France, and Spain. Attendees will also receive information about the UHC watch, a new online platform developed to monitor progress on affordable access to healthcare in Europe and Central Asia.
The EU Health Policy Platform serves as an interactive tool to facilitate discussions on public health issues and enable stakeholders to share knowledge and best practices. Meanwhile, the WHO Barcelona Office actively monitors financial protection and provides technical assistance to countries to reduce financial hardship and unmet healthcare needs. This work is supported by financial assistance from the EU through the EU4Health program managed by the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety.
