The Australian Government is investing $6 million to support the national netball team, the Diamonds, as they prepare for the 2027 Netball World Cup. This funding, part of the May budget, underscores the government’s commitment to women’s sport and aligns with the green and gold runway ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
The 2027 Netball World Cup will be a significant milestone, celebrating 100 years of netball in Australia. The funding will play a crucial role in delivering the event, marking the first time in over a decade that Australia will host the world’s top netball teams. The Diamonds, 12-time World Cup champions, will be defending their title on home soil.
At the 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa, the Diamonds reclaimed their champion status with a decisive 61-45 victory over England in the final. Currently ranked number one globally, the Diamonds hold a considerable lead over second-placed New Zealand.
