by Shreeya

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The City of Bryan has approved an economic development grant aimed at transforming a shopping plaza on East 29th Street into a vibrant women-owned wellness hub. This initiative, supported by a Chapter 380 agreement, will allocate up to $100,000 for enhancing façade and corridor beautification, paving the way for a new era in local wellness and beauty services.

The upcoming East District will feature a variety of businesses focused on wellness and beauty, including Piranha Fitness Studio, SoCo Head Spa & Blow Dry Bar, and Dose Injection Lounge by Luna Skin. These establishments aim to create a comprehensive destination offering fitness classes, hair styling, spa treatments, and more, catering to residents of Bryan-College Station, including Texas A&M University’s community.

Mayor Gutierrez expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the city’s commitment to supporting local women entrepreneurs and revitalizing key areas through economic incentives. “We are thrilled to see the revitalization of the East 29th Street corridor by local, women-owned businesses,” Mayor Gutierrez stated. “This Chapter 380 agreement reflects our dedication to fostering economic growth and community development.”

The development is particularly significant as Piranha Cycle + Pilates, a community fixture since 2011, plans to relocate to accommodate ongoing construction. Lindsay Greening, founder of Piranha, sees the move as an opportunity to rejuvenate Bryan’s historic district and give back to the community that has supported them for years.

“We are beyond grateful to the City of Bryan for their support of small, locally-owned businesses,” Greening remarked. “This new wellness hub is our way of giving back to the community that has championed us for over a decade. We are excited to create a space that will inspire and benefit everyone.”

Stephanie Anderson, founder of SoCo Head Spa & Blow Dry Bar, echoed Greening’s sentiments, emphasizing the city’s crucial role in fostering a vibrant local business environment. “The support from the City of Bryan has been phenomenal,” Anderson said. “This matching grant is a testament to the city’s commitment to our business community. We look forward to collaborating with other local women-owned businesses and bringing this unique wellness hub to life.”

Robin Gage, owner of Luna Skin and Aesthetics, expressed excitement about expanding her services through the new Dose Injection Lounge within the plaza. “Opening a second location has been on my mind for some time,” Gage stated. This opportunity aligns perfectly with our mission of providing holistic skin health and cosmetic services. We are grateful for the community’s warm welcome and support.”

The development project underscores Bryan’s efforts to promote economic diversity and community engagement. Marca Ewers-Shurtleff, Bryan City Council member, highlighted the importance of women-owned businesses in Bryan’s economic landscape. “As the only female council member, I am delighted to see women-owned businesses thrive in Bryan,” Ewers-Shurtleff said. “This initiative will further enhance our city’s reputation as a welcoming and supportive community for entrepreneurs.”

A grand opening event for the wellness hub is scheduled for early fall, with individual business openings expected to follow. Updates on the project’s progress will be shared through social media channels.

“This wellness hub represents a groundbreaking collaboration among local women-owned businesses,” Greening concluded. “With the City’s support, we are paving the way for a new economic society.
