Kenvue Inc., a U.S.-based consumer health company, has announced an upgraded strategic cooperation with Shenzhen Nepstar Medical Co. Ltd., one of China’s leading drugstore chains. This partnership, revealed on Tuesday, aims to capitalize on China’s evolving landscape for foreign investment and emphasizes the burgeoning “big health” sector.
The “big health” concept merges medical care with wellness, disease prevention, and lifestyle management. Kenvue and Nepstar plan to jointly explore innovative products and services to create an integrated ecosystem for consumers in this sector.
Gift Arpaporn Samabhandhu, president of Kenvue China, highlighted that the focus of public health is shifting from a “disease-centered” approach to a “health-centered” model, in alignment with the Healthy China 2030 initiative. This strategic blueprint, introduced in 2016, aims to achieve health goals that resonate with the United Nations’ sustainable development objectives.
Samabhandhu noted several factors contributing to the growth potential of the consumer health market in China, including an improved policy environment, rising socio-economic levels, increased public health awareness, and a growing aging population. “These factors prompt companies to evolve their business models to better meet consumer health needs and capture market growth opportunities,” she stated.
As a part of their expanded cooperation, Kenvue and Shenzhen Nepstar recently launched “Love Teeth Day,” which will see the establishment of oral health centers within Nepstar’s stores. These centers will provide consumers with both oral health education and products, further integrating health services into everyday consumer experiences.
Previously, Kenvue and Nepstar collaborated extensively in the over-the-counter (OTC) drug market in China. This upgraded partnership broadens their collaboration to include daily care products and the health and beauty sectors, enhancing their service offerings.
Kenvue, which was formerly the consumer healthcare division of Johnson & Johnson, boasts an array of well-known brands, including Motrin, Tylenol, and Listerine. The company’s product range encompasses medicines, medical devices, health supplements, consumer goods, and cosmetics, positioning it as a key player in the global consumer health industry.
Through this upgraded cooperation, Kenvue and Shenzhen Nepstar aim to not only expand their market presence but also contribute positively to public health outcomes in China.
